The racist statements are quiet interesting, he did grow up in the 60s and consequently those ideas may have been held deep in the crevices of his mind. Its almost like he is losing everything except a few old memories, perhaps he will revert to the 60s guy.

My advice is send him to a care home so he can receive adequate care before he passes and before he ruins your memory of himself.
